GOD, MYSELF, & I
I had the most exhilarating feeling when I was asked to be a panelist for GEM’s (God Empowers Me) first event. It felt like yesterday when I wondered aloud, wrote in my journal about having speaking engagements, panelist...etc. with opportunities to share my story. God blew my mind away when he presented me with my first opportunity. But the thought of speaking in front of people terrified me. Dry mouth, sweaty hands, breathlessness and trembling, those were just a few symptoms to describe my state of mind and place, as the days drew closer and closer to the event. I'd go back and forth in my head, asking myself, what do I have to share? In the midst of entertaining such thoughts, God interrupted me and said, "Never underestimate your story!" Hearing those words encouraged me and it took me back to a place of God, myself, and I. It was as if God was saying to me, "Widny, don't forget the tears you've cried, the heartbreak you've experienced, the disappointments and shame in the midst of a confused season in your life. I came through for you; in a rushing wind to comfort you, heal you and grow you for such a time as this."
I am thankful for my best-friend, Yariana, who is a Spirit-led woman and responded to the assignment God had given her. God, Empowers, Me,(G.E.M) was a vision and dream God gave her three years ago, and of course, with God-dreams there come trials and tribulation...but as she persevered and trusted in God to overcome her challenges, something deeper was able to birth through her. On October 7th, 2017 there was a taste of the beginning of something new. I am thankful for all of our friends who came together to support the dream and be a helping hand and be vessels to be an answer to someone’s prayer.
I say all this to say, 'God is willing to use anyone with an open heart.' Too many people are counting on you and I to be obedient and to say YES to the assignment God has for us. Saying yes to God is seeing someone else gets healed, delivered, strengthened and knowing Christ.
